Today is National Senior Citizen Day – a day to celebrate senior citizens and show appreciation for their contributions to our communities. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan declared August 21 as the first annual Senior Citizens Day in honor of seniors who make positive contributions in their communities and to also bring awareness of social, health, and economic issues that affect senior citizens.
There are various events and activities that are organized on Senior Citizens Day to raise awareness of supporting older people and recognizing their achievements. Many people spend this day with seniors they love and appreciate or take time to organize special community gatherings with their friends and family. Some businesses give special discounts or promotions to seniors as well.
As an agency focused on helping seniors in our community every day, today we recognize those who have contributed generously and accomplished so much in our community and in our country.
